The Amazing Mark Zuckerberg

It’s official.  The Forbes Richest People in America list is out, and Hudson Business Solutions noted Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg has surpassed the founders of Google, Sergey Brin and Larry Page.  Zuzkerberg’s wealth figure: a whopping $17.5 billion.

It seems like only yesterday that Google went public with its IPO, Initial Public Offering.  When it did, its founders became billionaires overnight.  Google did not invent the search engine, but it optimized it to its fullest potential for both relevancy and profit margin.  The Google IPO was one of the biggest ever and made its owners instant billionaires.  Over the years Google has built a reputation for both effectiveness and one of the best online reputations.  But then along comes social media, in particular Facebook, and nowadays all bets are off.  In just a few short years, all the rules have changed.  There is a new way of doing business and a new king on the block.  And the most amazing thing?  It took going public to make billionaires out of the Google guys.  Facebook has yet to even present itself on the stock market scene.  When it does, watch out.

Humble Beginnings

There’s a good chance you saw the movie The Social Network. If so, you saw how Zuckerberg got his beginnings as a college student.  It was his idea in the beginning to use his computer programming skills to build a network, just within Harvard University, whereby other students could get to know one another.  This of course then expanded to other universities, then the rest of the country, then the world.

You may remember as well that in the beginning the idea was not about making money.  But in the end, there was just too much money to be made.

The Money Maker

Zuckerberg fought advertising on Facebook all the way.  But with over 500 million users now, Facebook has just become too big.  Facebook is by the largest social media outlet on the World Wide Web, almost doubling the rest in visitors per month and time spent online.  And as mentioned earlier, his brainchild has yet to even go public on the stock market.  When it does, it is expected to be the biggest IPO ever. Not only will Zuckerberg realize billions when it does, it is anticipated that at that time he may very well become the richest person on planet Earth.

With the explosion of social media, and the newfound wealth of pioneers like Mark Zuckerberg, it’s not surprising that the founders of Google would soon be beating the path to social media prominence.  Google has now entered the world of social media with its new Google+.  With its unparalleled online reputation for media dominance, Google is sure to give Facebook a run for its money.
