Hudson Business Solutions’ “Social Media Savvy” Business of the Week: Pink Olive

Pink Olive is this week’s “social media savvy” business of the week! Located on East 9 Street, this gift shop is full of whimsical gifts for the home and any occasion. Whether it’s for a baby shower, a birthday, an anniversary, or just because, Pink Olive has wide assortment of beautiful gifts. Just like Pink Olive has a gift for almost every event, the company also has a presence on a wide variety of social media networks such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+, YouTube, and a company blog.

This week, Hudson Business Solutions discussed social media with Grace Kang, the Founder and Chief Buyer of Pink Olive. Kang revealed that the company started using social media in 2007, and she believes it is a very important tool for communicating with customers and gaining followers. “It’s a free platform from which you can project your unique values and style to the entire world,” Kang said. “Being ‘out there’ helps create a buzz about you and your business and gets your name out to potential customers and partners. You want to stay relevant to your customers and engage with them for feedback and support.”

Kang disagrees with those business owners who dismiss social media as a waste of time. “It would be hard to start a business these days without being involved in social media in some form. It’s all about creating relationships and social media provides a great platform for connecting to people all around the world,” Kang said. She believes the only time social media is a “waste of time” is when people and companies are not using the social media outlets properly. “You want to stay true to yourself and your values,” Kang advised. “Think of it as if you’re going into a cocktail party with your friends.”

Pink Olive has used social media to connect with their customers on a more personal level, and the company has celebrated holidays and shared fun events with their followers through the company’s blog. One example of this type of connection occurred this past Halloween. “We had many visitors from our customer base all decked out in their costumes, which we posted on our blog,” Kang said. This was not the first time that Pink Olive used their blog to connect with their customers. “When we had our silhouette art event in September, we made sure to capture the event in action and share it with the community. Since posting these pictures, our customers have been back numerous times to spend more with us,” Kang explained. “Connection builds loyalty. Loyalty builds trust. Trust builds sales.”
